Connecticut Payroll Tax Requirements

There are two required tax items you need in order to get set up for payroll.

• Connecticut Department of Revenue Services Register online here. Approximately 10 business days after successfully completing registrations, you will receive your Connecticut Tax Registration Number.

• Connecticut Department of Labor Register online here. After completing the registration process, you will receive your Department of Labor Employer Registration Number.

• Contribution Rate Your rate is the combined total of the Employer Tax Rate and the Connecticut Fund Solvency Tax Rate. Refer to the additional instructions below if you are uncertain about your rate or if you need to apply for one.

• Find your twelve-digit (XXXXXXXXX XXX) registration number on any previously submitted state tax return (Form CT-941) or in correspondence received from the CT Department of Revenue Services.

• Find your seven-digit (XX-XXX-XXX) registration number on any previously submitted quarterly report (Form UC-5A / UC-2R) or in correspondence received from the Department of Labor.

• If you are unable to locate your Department of Labor Employer Registration Number, you may submit a request via fax to the Employer Status Unit at (860) 263-6567. Refer to the specific fax requirements outlined here.
